Light-Box is the culmination of a series of “obstructions.” The initial idea for the project was tested and challenged through various means as assigned by UNT’s professor David Bithell in Intermedia Performance Art (MUCP 5590). Each obstruction can be seen here.
Light-Box is a fixed media piece with some narrative aspects centered on a personified small black box containing an RGB LED. 5.1 surround tape music and projected colors sync up with the opening and closing and RGB LED colors of the box using Max/MSP/Jitter and an Arduino interface. The media used causes the audience to feel as though they have been immersed in an environment they have never before experienced. Only colors (no shapes or animation) and audio samples of the box opening and closing were used to create the entire experience. How the box was constructed can be seen here.
